Consignment

If you’ve ever visited our East Austin shop, you know our walls are filled with prints, stickers, ceramics, and other locally made and designed gifts. Space is limited, but we rotate most of our products once a year to give new vendors a turn.

At Dear Diary, we have artist guidelines and curation policies in place to ensure that the art accepted into our consignment program aligns with our ethical values and creates a welcoming space for all artists and customers. Our guidelines and policies focus on two key aspects: ethical considerations and the overall aesthetic.

Artist Guidelines:

We are committed to maintaining a queer, vegan, and family-friendly environment. Please keep this in mind when submitting work. We also encourage artists to submit works that embrace and promote these values, whether it's through subject matter, themes, or representations.

Curation Policies:

1. Originality and Creativity: We seek artworks that are unique and showcase the artist's individual voice and creative vision. We encourage artists to push boundaries, experiment with different techniques, and explore new ideas to create captivating pieces.

2. Coherence and Cohesion: We aim to create a cohesive and visually appealing display by considering the overall composition, style, and theme of the artwork. We take into account how different pieces complement and enhance each other and the space to create a unified and engaging visual experience for our customers.

3. Diversity and Representation: We strive to represent a diverse range of artistic styles, perspectives, and backgrounds. We actively seek out artworks that celebrate diversity and inclusivity, including works by artists from marginalized communities. We believe in providing a platform for underrepresented voices and fostering a sense of representation within our art community.

4. Market Demand and Relevance: We take into consideration the market demand and relevance of artworks to ensure that they resonate with our customers. We consider factors such as current trends, customer preferences, and the unique character of our Dear Diary community to curate a collection that appeals to our target audience.

5. Rotation and Refresh: We regularly rotate artworks and introduce new pieces to keep our displays dynamic and engaging. This allows us to showcase a variety of artists and maintain a sense of freshness and excitement for our customers. We value continuous renewal and strive to offer a dynamic and ever-evolving art experience.

6. Communication and Collaboration: We believe in open communication and collaboration with our artists. We encourage artists to share their ideas, provide feedback, and engage in a dialogue with us. We value the input and insights of our artists and work together to create an enriching and supportive artistic community.

While we have certain guidelines in place, we also value open dialogue and appreciate the unique perspectives and interpretations that artists bring to their craft. We believe that by upholding our ethical and aesthetic considerations and implementing a thoughtful curation policy, we can create a dynamic and inclusive art program that resonates with our customers, supports local artists, and reflects the values of Dear Diary.

We regularly review and rotate artworks to keep our displays fresh and engaging. This allows us to showcase a diverse range of artists and offer our customers new and exciting experiences during each visit.

Thank you for being a part of our vibrant community.
