Dear Diary Newsletter
November 2022

Hi there, Litsa here! Here's another hopefully-monthly newsletter for ya! In this episode:

This weekend & next: Austin Studio Tour

We're Stop P39 on the tour this year, and once again, it will be epic! We'll have 22+ vendors located here in the shop and at the courtyard (1208 Chicon St). The very awesome Samantha Soper of Creative Cuties is producing the whole thing. There will be live art and live music in addition to the market.

Also! It's worth mentioning Rusty Paige, our open mic host is playing a set which includes her new single, Note to Jimmy Lou.

Shelf saga continued

We're under construction! Sort of. In the last episode of Litsa vs shelves, our nice friend Israel removed all the benches for us to make room for MORE SHELVES! Why? Because we want to fill Dear Diary Coffee full of art, but we needed to make room.

Our goal was to get as much art as possible in before Austin Studio Tour, so we didn't have time to finish the walls and reinstall the electrical outlets. We know this has caused some distress for laptop users, but don't worry—as soon as AST is done, we'll finish the job. Or we'll ask Israel anyway.

Secrets

Now's a good time to join the club
I'm designing the next Team Snacks Cycling kit. It's gonna have drawings all over it! If you want to get in on the team order, now is a good time to join the club.

Members of Teams Snacks and Violet Crown get the Club Discount at Dear Diary Coffee, plus after-hours access to the shop for team events.

There will be interesting food
I have extra kitchen help this week, so we're gonna really stock up for AST weekend! We'll be baking Gluten Free cookies, of course. I'm also thinking to bring back cupcakes in a cup. Those seemed to sell really well. And also maybe BBQ tofu? Kitchen day isn't until Friday, so I'm open to suggestions. Seed food ideas to litsa@deardiary.coffee

Halloween is over, but Sightseer remains

Remember how the roasting witches of Sightseer Coffee Co. swapped out our dear sweet espresso with Hellacious espresso? And then we turned into an evil food truck called WE'RE WIREY?! Well, Halloween is over, so I guess the spell is ended. But we're still serving Sightseer coffee because

  • It comes from women owned farms and women led coffee collectives
  • It's roasted by a couple of cool ladies that super know what they're doing

We couldn't give up our steller cold brew though. The Sightseer blend called "Dear Diary" is our totally classic dark roast—the one we developed for cold brew. It's cherry and chocolate and velvet and yum!

Guess and win!

Okay, this is fun. Mercy knows exactly what latte she wants to concoct for the week of Thanksgiving, but instead of coming out and telling you, we want you to guess!

The rules of the game are: post your Thanksgiving latte idea to Instagram and tag @deardiary_coffee no later than November 20th. On November 21st, Mercy will announce our latte special. If you got it right, you can have that latte on the house!

P.S., Mercy was promoted. She is now barista, mix witch, and Marketing Manager. Congrats Mercy! We love your ideas!

Colleen made shirts!

And they are so cool! Colleen is a FANTASTIC artist, and she designed these really metal shirts with vampire cats on them.

We make our own oat milk now

...and we have it on tap! We'll be keeping over 6,000 cartons out of the landfill each year by making our own oat milk in-house. It's so cool to finally have oat milk in the shop after over 18 months of recipe development. Bricco Blends, our oat milk is delicious and creamy and makes great latte foam. We're extremely interested in your feedback since we'll have an opportunity to tweak the recipe for our next production.

Tell us what you think

We keep a few cartons in the back for folks who prefer major brand. Nothing matters more to us than getting your drink right!

Bradley moved to Portland

I know, we're sad too! Bradley brought a really cool energy to the shop, and a lot of customers have befriended him. We're happy for him though! He has a really sweet little place in Portland, and he has his pick of cool shops to work at.

I'd offer ways to stay in touch, but I don't know his social medias. I guess ask Mercy how he's doing. They're really good friends.

Secret Show 2022 was a hit!

Every year, Dear Diary works with an artist or art group to produce a show in which the entertainment and location are a secret! This year, we worked with dancer and choreographer Kelly Goetz to build an synchronized audio experience on a bridge. It was neat!
