Dear Diary Coffeehouse has given their indoor dining to local artists for the holiday season. Over twenty illustrators are selling their prints, stickers, zines, and other merchandise in a consignment partnership with this new East Austin coffee shop. The owners of the shop, Joshua Adrian and Amalia Litsa, decided to keep their indoor seating closed while Corona remains a threat, and offer customers outdoor seating instead. One day, they would like to use their indoor space to gather artists together for meetups, classes, and other events that nurture Austin’s creative community. “This way, we are still being true to our vision in spirit,” Litsa says, “and it has been so fun working with all these super talented people.”
Dear Diary is making space for more art consignment this holiday season, creating an artist bazaar in the Chestnut neighborhood of East Austin.
Dear Diary Coffeehouse’s holiday pop-up is a scaled down version of Blue Genie Art Bazaar, Parts and Labor, or Armadillo Christmas Bazaar. The owners have actively sought illustrated works, in particular. Visitors might recognize the colorful and graphical works of Nakatomi Inc (Tim Doyle), Brian Maclaskey, Cara Jackson, Ashley R. Franklin, Santana Lopez, and Gerardo Rodriquez. Dear Diary Coffeehouse’s would-be dining room is filled with stickers, patches, zines, t-shirts, and other gifts.
Dear Diary’s pop-up holiday bazaar is a great destination for holiday shoppers who want to support local business and the Austin economy this year. The pop-up will be open through Christmas, and possibly into the new year. Over twenty artists are selling their work at Dear Diary Coffeehouse, and the shop is continuing to expand its consignment inventory.
The pop-up is open during Dear Diary’s regular business hours: 8am – 2pm every day. “We are thinking of keeping the shop open late on weekends. We just have to figure out staffing. Stay tuned!” Litsa says. “Our original hours were 7am to 9pm,” Josh adds. The shop opened April 4th, 2020, just as Austin went under lockdown.
